History

In December 1971, Pastor Roger Dale Keener came to Spanish Fort, Alabama to establish an independent fundamental Baptist church.  In February 1972, the church was organized with eight charter members and incorporated a month later.  Under Pastor Keener’s leadership, property was purchased on April 23, 1972. Eastern Shore Christian School was established as an outreach of the church in August 1975.  During Bro. Keener’s ministry, the church grew to over 200 members.

On September 29, 1976, while on his way to purchase a Sunday school bus in Perrysville, Indiana, Pastor Keener was killed in an aviation accident. Since then the church has struggled to maintain regular growth and continued to decline. By November 2008 the church once again had only eight members.

Interim Pastor, Evangelist Scott Saxton, helped restore order and organization in the church, leading them to find a full-time pastor.  Bro. Richard R. Ullo was chosen as pastor in January 2009, to come “Rebuild the Work”.  The church facilities were in serious need of updating and repair before regular public ministries could be started.  While continuing to hold services for the current members, the work began.  A “Rebuilding the Work” campaign was started and with the cooperation of volunteers, individual contributors, missionary contractors, church members, and local churches, the church building was updated.  Some updating and work is still in progress and will continue as the church grows.

In June 2009, Pastor Ullo was able to purchase a home in the Spanish Fort area in order to serve the church in a full-time capacity.  Today, the church is once again growing. As we pray and work together it is our desire to see many souls reached for the cause of Christ.

If you are in the area, we would love for you to visit our church. If you are in need of a church home, you will be warmly welcomed at the Bible Baptist Church.
